By now, we're used to the Coen Brothers' penchant for goofy comedy, from the musical massacre in Buster Scruggs to the suggestive Navy dance number in Hail Caesar. But Blood Simple, their debut film, had been a grim, Sundance-friendly noir - so in 1987, no one suspected their sophom*ore effort would turn out to be a slapstick classic! Thank you for following THREADS, the film project series launched at Marche du Film, Cannes France on May 23, 2023. I continue to receive connections around the world in support of THREADS, the film project. I am reposting the 9 hour broadcast, as we build our worldwide audience and gear up for our next crowdfunding launch. If you are able, please contribute to generate funds to move the film project into production. Why is THREADS so important? The message is just not to document the hundreds of women's weaving groups around the world, but to shed light on the sacred knowledge spanning thousands of years of culture, tradition and history and to preserve this sacred form of communication!Language as theclothof thought and cloth as alanguageof civilization establish ties, knots, networks between people: speaker/listener, writer/reader, manufacturer/customer, wearer/gazer. Language and cloth perform similar functions in constructing a fabric, a tissue that involves, actually or metaphorically, forms of communication and connection (as well as of concealment and camouflage). Spider Woman taught the Navajo people both to weave and to tell stories. Storytelling is a complex web, aweavingof discourses that, giving pleasure, sheds light on and, as in the case of Scheherazade, saves life. Dating from the ancient civilizations, weaving is a craft combining fiber, design, and color into the grammar of its language. Symbolic of the passage of time (Penelope and her shroud), of nonverbal but powerfully pictorial expression (Philomela), and of the independent artist’s nonconformism (Arachne), weaving creates “organicfabrics, textiles”. The latter term derives from the Latin verbtexere, to weave, and also designates the weaving of written words into form, into composition, into text. Not by chance Roland Barthes wrote that “the text is a cloth", and in theAeneidVirgil claimed that both language andvestis(dress and tapestry) identified a nation. The ancient production of texts involved textiles, which, mainly woven by women, preserved and perpetuated the traditions of mythmaking and storytelling in fabric designs. As a record of society’s symbols, such textiles were texts inscribed with personal and/or political messages that brought together a community. Weaving was no less than a tool for signifying, and weavers, like writers, were no less than creators of culture (Source File:cat.cs008.xml)This film project series, is about preserving our cultures. We are at a crossroads of legacies and a new generation of young artisans that will transition the information, but in a new way. Join me in threading the connections across cultures, countries, traditions, sacred art and education to support an emerging group of people that will carry the message forward. We are still in our crowdfunding efforts. If you care to donate to help launch the film production, go to: https://loomsinmotion.com. Your generosity is accepted in gratitude.

Huge thanks to Claire Cathcart and BBC Radio Guernsey for having our Communications Officer Katherine Levy Spencer on this morning with Association of Guernsey Charities Development Officer Joni Nettleship (she, her) https://lnkd.in/gRnBGsR (listen from 11:15am - 11:40am)Picking up on one of the questions they were asked: we have 1,456 data protection officers registered with us (only certain organisations are required by law to have them - see below).🔔 Under our local data protection law, you *must* appoint a DPO if you:- are a public authority (except for courts acting in their judicial capacity); - carry out large scale systematic monitoring of individuals (for example, online behaviour tracking) as part of your core activity; or - carry out large scale processing of special category data as part of your core activity.✅ So if you are a DPO who is interested in assisting a local charity - the Office of the Data Protection Authority wants to support you, find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ejpR_EME

I usually keep my LinkedIn only work or personal development related, but this weighs too much on my heart not to share. I saw a movie this weekend that has impacted me in so many ways, and recalibrated not only my view of the world, but how I see my place in it. If you have the opportunity, please make the time to go see the movie “Sound of Freedom”. Did you know that today currently, more people are enslaved than when slavery was actually legal? Did you know that a huge portion of them are children? We talk about businesses and companies on this platform. But did you know that sadly human beings are the product for sale for one of the fastest growing businesses in the world?Human trafficking is a $150 billion dollar-per-year business, more than the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL combined. This is startling. These are human beings. In slavery. I pray everyone sees the movie “Sound of Freedom” in the theater. You can even see this movie for free, as many people like myself, after watching the movie, have donated free tickets so everyone can have the chance to see it in the theater. This is one that should be seen on the big screen. You can go to the website below to get free movie tickets. #soundoffreedom #endhumantrafficking #endchildtrafficking #endchildexploitation #sundaythoughts #inspiration #humanrights #protectthechildren #charity #community #purpose #nurselife

💷 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗞 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨Earlier this week, my home town was dealt a blow as The Oldham Colleisum announced it was effectively closing its doors and cancelling all shows for the foreseeable. 😞 🎭 There has been an understandable outcry about this, Oldham Colleisum and the Theatre Workshop has seen some of the biggest names from stage and screen grace pass through and has personally become a staple tradition for my family with regards to Christmas time pants (oh yes it has… 👀)!However, I may have two alternative questions that don’t seem to have been raised as of yet… Firstly, why has it / does it take such drastic action for members of the public, businesses and key stakeholders in Oldham to now want to take action to support one of the most historic organisations in our town? 🤷🏻♂️Secondly, how on earth did the powers that be at the Colleisum allow it to get to this? Where was the risk management? 🤔Obviously it is well known that the Arts sector is heavily subsidised through grant funding, but with these 🤡 in charge at Government level surely it is ridiculously risky to base your whole businesses operations on an unsecured £500,000 grant? A businesses that is reliant on unsecured grant funding is one decision away from becoming extinct. It was paramount to the Colleisum long term sustainability that those in charge questioned the model and risk managed the reliance on ONE sole grant funded. Whether that finding more efficient revenue streams, or finding alternative funding pots to sub-support the central one. The saying “𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑝𝑢𝑡 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑘𝑒𝑡” comes to mind. 🧺 It is very sad for the town, a sad day for the arts in Oldham and hopefully we collectively can find a solution but surely there needs to be some element of accountability taken by those that have let this play out in this way. At some point in our lives, Elder Care will be an issue. For many families, they are not familiar with navigating the legal and financial sysems to access the best care for an elderly parent. Quite often, it happens too late. Let's understand why that is the case. Please consider donating to my documentary project on Elder Care: https://lnkd.in/evTTnKXM
