You don't need a bread machine if you have an American made KitchenAid Mixer. I've got an easy recipe for homemade white bread. It is basic, simple, and wholesome.

Don't miss our source list of American made kitchen appliances and household appliances!

During warmer months I try and buy food items that are grown locally and then I freeze them to use during the winter months. I feel it is important to eat locally and shop locally as much as possible, and this is true when buying products as well. I try and buy products that are Made in the USA, but it can be hard sometimes to find what you need. However, one of my favorite, most used kitchen items is in fact made in the good ole’ USA and that is my KitchenAid mixer,. KitchenAid has been around for generations; it is a trusted name and appliance in many kitchens, including mine. It is made in Ohio.

I use it for countless recipes and foods. Truly, my KitchenAid Mixer is the most used small appliance my kitchen.

One of my favorite items to use my KitchenAid mixer for is Homemade White Bread, but when I tell people that they often look at me like I am crazy and they always ask how I find time to do it with my busy life. The truth is, however, that baking bread is really simple and once you get the hang of it you can whip up bread in no time.

While you can obviously knead the bread yourself, I find it much easier to dump the ingredients in my KitchenAid Mixer and let the mixer do the mixing and the kneading for me. Why spend my time kneading the bread, when my KitchenAid mixer has a bread attachment with it? I can start the bread while I am in the kitchen and just keep my eye on it allowing me to do other tasks.

Making the bread using your stand mixer is an easy way to make a great tasting loaf of bread, one that is better for you than any loaf you could buy at the store because you can control the ingredients and you know that there is nothing artificial in it. Furthermore, you get to feel like a rockstar baker to your family.

I hope you try this recipe and use your mixer and enjoy making your own bread as much as I do.

White Bread Recipe using a KitchenAid Mixer

Yield: * makes two loaves

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Additional Time: 45 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes

Love your KitchenAid Mixer but wish you had more reasons to use it? Make this easy recipe for homemade white bread part of your regular routine, leaving the muscle work to the mixer.

Ingredients

  • 6 to 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3tablespoons sugar
  • 1tablespoon salt
  • 2tablespoons shortening
  • 2packages regular or quick active dry yeast (4 1/2 teaspoons)
  • 2 1/4cups very warm water (120° to 130°F)
  • 2tablespoons butter or margarine, melted, if desired

Instructions

  1. In your mixer's mixing bowl, stir 3 1/2 cups of the flour, the sugar, salt, shortening and yeast until well mixed.
  2. Turn mixer on low and slowly add warm water. Gradually increase the speed of the mixer until well mixed.Add flour one cup at a time (up to 7 cups of flour) until dough is no longer sticky and it is easy to handle.Dough should no longer stick to the sides of the bowl and it should not stick to the mixer attachment.
  3. Cover bowl loosely with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel and let rise in warm place until dough has doubled in size.
  4. Once it has risen, gently push into dough to deflate, gather it into a ball and divide the dough in half.
  5. Stretch the dough a few times and shape into a ball.Place each ball in a lightly greased bread pan and brush with olive oil on top. Cover with plastic wrap and kitchen towel andlet rise in warm place. TIP: I typically start my oven at this point and then place the dough near the vent on the stovetop.By the time the oven is heated up the dough has risen sufficiently.
  6. Preheat oven to425°F.When dough has risen and oven is hot, place both loaves in the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes until loaves are golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven, brush tops with melted butter, and allow to cool slightly.

Thank you for posting! This is exactly what every dough maker needs… a Very tasty, simple recipe for bread or pizza dough. A Kitchen Aid is not necessary. I use a Sanlida stand mixer with a dough hook. It works great. I also split the recipe in half, substitute olive oil for shortening, skip the butter, and dump all the ingredients in the bowl at the same time, start at low (1) for a couple minutes, and finish at medium (4) for ten minutes, adding a tablespoon of flour or water if necessary to get the batch to ball in the bowl. Love this simple tasty recipe!

This is super easy and delicious! I made it for Easter this year instead of the usual bread I made. No kneading the kitchen aide does it all. I’ll be making this frequently . Thanks for sharing h

I just tried this recipe because my wonderful “bread machine” makes the bread so very dense that the family doesn’t like it. I am SOOO happy with this recipe! I followed the recipe to the T, allowing 1 hour of raising time in the bowl and then again in the pan (I didn’t turn the oven on for 2nd raise because I wanted to see how long I should wait for it to raise). Bread turned out SUPER great!! We ate half of the first loaf within the first half hour – I will have to make another set this evening because these two first loafs will be gone!! I was so happy to use “ANY flour” because with the Covid, I can ONLY get all purpose white flour!!

My first attempt just came out of the oven and I’m really not sure yet. It didn’t rise as much as I would have expected despite waiting quite a while. Maybe I didn’t wait long enough but more than that, I was surprised that I would add the yeast directly to the bowl without activating it first. Did I miss this step in the process or was I just not patient enough. The recipe says that by the time the oven heats up, the second rise should be done. I certainly left it a lot longer than that. Not sure how long it takes your oven to preheat to 425 but mine doesn’t take that long.

I’m with you! I always activate the yeast following the instructions on the jar/package. Then I add it with the water. (Don’t forget your include the water you used to activate in you water calculation.) works every time. Personally I think this recipe has too much sugar.

I’ve been making bread for 50 years & I appreciate all of the changes that have come along to make it easier. However, I NEVER add yeast without proofing it first, even instant yeast, no matter what a recipe says.

I love making bread, in the summer, I stick to rolls and flatbreads that don’t need to be in the oven that long. I’d love to have a Kitchenaid mixer, with fall baking, it would be so much fun to make up loaves of bread all the time, to give as gifts for no reason, and let them know the mixer is made in the USA!!! This is a nice recipe I’d love to try.

I don’t know when you asked this question but here goes.

It takes at least one hour and up to two hours for first rise, On the 2nd rise it takes from a 1/2 hour to 1 hour. Just measure your container to let you know when it’s risen double.

The easiest way to be sure it’s a correct double is to put your dough into a bowl, then remove dough and fill the bowl to the same height with water. Then measure the water you have in the bowl (in a measuring cup or by weight on a weight machine) and then add the same amount again to get double, pour it in the bowl and mark the height, Pour out the water, dry it, then add dough and away you go.

Thank you for posting this recipe and instructions. I love my Kitchen Aide, but confess to never using it specifically to make bread. Today, I did. The bread dough is in the bowl on it’s first rise. It came out perfectly, nice and smooth, elastic, and not sticking to a thing. I can already tell it will turn out well, through second rise and bake. I just put up some peach jam a few weeks ago, and I can’t wait to try it on the bread later tonight! You made me happy today. =)

A KitchenAid mixer is worth the investment. My husband bought one for me several years ago. He got the large one (6 qt?) Making cookies is a breeze, as I Can mix up a triple batch. Bread making is a breeze. So worth the investment. We have the meat grinder attachment and grind our own deer meat. I can mix up ground meat and all the ingredients for meatloaf in just a couple minutes using the regular attachment.

Is the purpose of the shortening the consistency? If so, would it work to use coconut oil instead? When it is not melted down, it is the same consistency as shortening. Thanks!

I have never used all-purpose flour in bread recipes; always bread flour. I am anxious to try this out as *cough cough* my husband or daughter #2 put away dishes and I cannot find the kneader for my bread machine. I love making homemade bread because I can control the ingredients! If anyone has great recipes for middle eastern pita bread, naan, pizza crust, and cinnamon rolls, especially whole wheat variety, please share!
